Saturday Volunteers
- Every job has a coordinator who will be in touch with you prior to the sale to inform you of your duties and to answer your questions. Most coordinators will meet with their team on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning to review the duties again, on site.
Potluck Supper: 5:30 Friday All volunteers Friday AND Saturday, Propagators and Pot Cleaners, are invited to the Potluck Supper
- Label everything: Tell us what the dish actually is (sometimes its hard to tell what is under all that cheese), and whether it contains any known allergens, e.g. nuts, dairy, gluten. Label your serving dish too and remember to take it home.
- Drop: Drop your contribution off in the kitchen, along with any cooking instructions, when you arrive. Casseroles and lasagnas must arrive thawed. Don't bring any liquid meals like soup.
- Schlep: Bring your own plate, cutlery & mug. (We have paper plates if you forget yours, but no cutlery or mugs.).
- Shop: After supper, volunteers will be allowed to purchase and pay for any 2 items (plants, SeaSoil, tools & treasures). Please choose plants without flowers. The Mother's Day table is off-lints on Friday night - we want to save all those gifts for kids. If you purchase SeaSoil on Friday night, you will be given a voucher to turn in on Saturday and pick up your SeaSoil.
Friday Volunteers
- Name tag: Wear your name tag
- Arrive on time and stay until the end of your shift. If you have to leave let your coordinator know.
- Sign-in: When you arrive on Friday to volunteer, please sign in at the Volunteer desk near the piano. Fill out a draw slip for a chance to win a prize.
- Safety: Set-up Friday is a hectic day. It is not uncommon to find people working underneath tables and on step ladders. To avoid mishaps, volunteers are asked to stay in the area to which they were assigned unless explicitly asked to help in another location. At all times, be mindful of what is going on around you.
- Enjoy: Have fun, meet someone new, enjoy the day.
Saturday Volunteers
- Name tag: Wear your name tag
- Hat: Wear a garden hat on Saturday. This is a signature feature of SSGC Plant Sale. The decoration is up to you but the hat is a must!
- Parking: No parking at the church itself., unless you are disabled. We want to leave as many places as possible for our customers to park. So please walk (if possible), get dropped off, or car pool to the church. If you bring a car, park on a side street.
- Valuables: Leave them at home. There is no safe place to store purses, etc

- Aprons: There are club aprons for people handling plants (most of us). These can be checked out on Saturday, again at a table near the piano. Don’t forget to return it!
- Shop: Saturday volunteers are allowed to briefly shop for plants if they so wish. This depends entirely on having sufficient volunteers and how crazy busy the day is. Each coordinator will use his or her discretion so please check with your coordinator if you wish to shop.
- Pay: You must pay for your plants before noon. There will be a special holding area outside for volunteers' plants where you can store them until you are able to pick them up.
- Fire Sale: If there are enough plants left, there will be a volunteers-only Fire Sale (sell off remaining Club plants) shortly after noon, after all the customers have left.
- Clean-up: It will make a huge difference if each volunteer helps to clean and pack up in their particular area when the sale finishes. Please follow the instructions of the coordinators. You may be asked to strip table coverings, wipe down and fold the tables, and/or carry tables outside. . It goes without saying that our members must only do what is within their physical capacity. No injuries please!
